With the COVID-19 pandemic turning higher education upside down (along with the rest of society), one outcome has been the vast growth and normalization of online higher education. Whereas online higher education was once considered a niche alternative for learners in remote locations, working adults or those with limited financial resources, it has since become a much more mainstream phenomenon. AppliedHE has brought together some of the sector’s thought and practice leaders from the UK, USA, Botswana and Hong Kong, to provide a global perspective on the future of online higher education. While online higher education has expanded, most providers also maintain hybrid teaching models with optional in-class experiences. Is this online-first, classroom-optional approach what lies ahead for the sector as a whole? Or is there another ‘new normal’ that these leaders are looking forward to? Be sure to find out and register for this special edition of AppliedHE Xchange!
